Running Successful Community Spaces

Welcome to this week’s newsletter, where I’m diving into the art of running successful X Spaces. Whether you’re new to hosting or looking to level up, I’ve got you covered with practical tips to make your Spaces engaging and impactful.
What Are X Spaces?
X Spaces are live audio rooms on the X platform where you can host discussions, connect with your audience, and build community in real time. It’s a fantastic way to share ideas, host Q&As, or just chat with like-minded folks.
How to Start Running X Spaces Successfully
1. Set Up Your First Space
Getting started is simple:
Open the X app on your phone (Or web).
Tap the bell icon and select "Create a space."
Add a catchy title and an optional description to let people know what your Space is about (Used to Hook in your audience).
Hit "Go live" to start your session.
Pro Tip: You can invite up to 2 co-hosts to help manage the conversation and allow up to 10 speakers at a time. Keep it manageable to start!
2. Plan Your Content
A successful Space has a clear focus. Before going live:
Choose a topic you’re passionate about or that resonates with your audience.
Prepare a few talking points or questions to keep the conversation flowing.
Decide if you’ll take questions from listeners or focus on a panel discussion.
Example: If you’re into tech, you could host a Space on “The Future of AI in 2025” and invite followers to share their thoughts.
3. Promote Your Space
Don’t just go live and hope for the best. Spread the word!
Share a post on X with the date, time, and topic of your Space.
Pin the post to your profile for visibility.
Tag potential co-hosts or speakers to draw their followers in.
4. Engage Your Audience
Once your Space is live, keep the energy up:
Welcome listeners as they join and give a quick intro to your topic.
Encourage participation by inviting people to request to speak or asking for their opinions.
Acknowledge speakers by name to make them feel valued.
Real Insight: Posts on X highlight that hosts who went from small Spaces (20 people) to larger ones (500+) often focused on building confidence and creating a welcoming vibe. Engagement is king here!
5. Manage the Flow
A good host keeps the conversation on track:
If someone goes off-topic, politely steer them back.
Use your co-hosts to help moderate and handle speaker requests.
Keep an eye on time! aim for 30-60 minutes for most Spaces to avoid losing momentum.
Tip: If things get too quiet, have a backup question ready to spark discussion.
6. Wrap Up and Follow Up
End your Space on a high note:
Summarize key points from the discussion.
Thank your speakers and listeners for joining.
Share a post on X recapping the Space and tag participants to keep the conversation going.
Next Step: Consider recording your Space and sharing highlights for those who couldn’t attend.

What’s next?
Next Thursday (May 15th, 2025) We will be discussing in greater detail about the ways of building a community through Spaces and how to start things up in greater detail. The X community is buzzing with Space hosts who’ve grown their audiences through consistency and engagement. So I would encourage everyone to start building their own.
